This fall, while very challenging personally, was pretty amazing for getting clarity on what is truly important.
Ever since I rediscovered fly fishing three years ago to this month, I have struggled with a completely false notion that I have to fly fish one way. There has been a completely ridiculous and false notion that I have to choose between traditional western rod and reel vs. tenkara rod and line.
That is unmitigated head trash and is reflective of nothing good.
How I fish is, well, how I fish. How you fish is…how you fish.
I think most of my problems have been based upon anxiety and social media. I love fly fishing so much, both traditional and tenkara, that I have been binging all kinds of videos about both.
Of course, some of those channels and creators are super passionate about there way of fly fishing and either directly or indirectly advocate for specialization and following their way. For me, that has resulted in spending too much money and having too much uncertainty.
I am going fly fishing this friday and I will be doing it with a tenkara rod. There are all kinds of reasons that I could provide, but the only real reason that matters is because I want to.
Fish your way, for you and nobody else. You are a good enough reason to do it your way.
All the best and tight lines,
Mike
Mike, I emphatically agree! I disdain elitism and puritanisitc ideology. Fishing is supposed to be fun and bring each of us the serenity we seek.
